Stay Alert!

One early morning a vampire bat flapped wearily in from his nightly prowl with his face covered in fresh blood.

Grabbing the nearest spot where he could hang from the roof of the cave, he prepared to sleep, but the other bats began hassling him about where the blood had come from.

Several times he told them to get lost and let him get some sleep but they persisted until he finally gave in.

“OK, follow me.” he said and headed out of the cave followed by hundreds of excited bats.

Down through a valley they went, across a river and into a huge forest.

Finally the bat slowed down and all the others milled around him, their tongues hanging out.

“See that large oak tree over there?” he said.

“Yes, yes,” they all screamed in a frenzy.

“Well, good for you,” said the first bat, “‘cos I didn’t!”
