Eckhart Tolle in Australia & NZ

July 2nd, 2008 by Pete

It was recntly announced that Eckhart Tolle will be coming to Australia and New Zealand in March next year! It’s planned that he will give an Intensive in Sydney on March 7th. a talk in Melbourne on March 10th, another talk in Brisbane on March 12th, and then a three-day retreat from March 20th at the Hyatt Resort at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast.

When I and many others wrrote to Eckhart’s office in Vancouver asking for Perth to be incluced in the Australian tour, Erin replied:

“Our original Australia/New Zealand itinerary for Eckhart included Perth, Adelaide, Wellington, and Christchurch; however it was Eckhart’s decision to remove these cities from the tour. He knows that there are many people in each of these cities who would love to have him teach there. If only he could be everywhere all the time! It is just physically impossible for him to meet all of the expectations placed upon him. We understand your disappointment and hope you’ll be able to make it to one of his Australian destinations.”

Further details of the Australian tour can be found on Eckhart’s Web site.

Thank You Eckhart

June 20th, 2008 by Pete

Eckhart Tolle, the well known author of “A New Earth” and “The Power of Now”, has been the catalyst who, without knowing me personally at all, has been the one that changed everything.

I somehow figured out in the year 2001 that I was always in either the past or the future, and wasn’t really very much in the present at all. Because that didn’t seem like a good thing, I set out in my usual way to figure things out and I searched “living in the present” at amazon.com. Up came “The Power of Now” along with a selection of other books. I ordered two other books too, not knowing, but don’t even know what those books were now. I was so taken with “The Power of Now” that I’m not sure I ever read them.

“The Power of Now” seemed so clearly to be coming from the same source that I was experiencing as the source of my personal guidance, which I understood intellectually to be my own Self, but which I was yet unable to experience as such. To have a book so clearly coming from that source was absolutely riveting.

I tried to register for a retreat with Eckhart Tolle in October of 2002 but it was already full with a huge waiting list in February when I tried to register. By some stroke of luck, by August I was given a space and was pleased yet also I remember being kind of confused. I couldn’t understand why I was going, because I thought he had already said it all in a book, so why was I going? What more could I possibly be expecting?

When it came time to go to the retreat, I mostly remember just sitting there with a great big silly grin on my face, totally being delighted by Eckhart’s way of being with us. There were 450 of us in the big hall at Omega Institute, and it was just a matter of sitting there and listening to Eckhart for five days. In between his talks I was just very quiet. Somehow between the beginning and the end of that retreat, something irrevocably changed for me. I was immersed in bliss, and knew that everything that I had ever wanted as a spiritual seeker had now arrived, and there was nowhere else to go. Somehow it seemed that Eckhart Tolle had handed it all to me on a silver platter.

My old life ceased operating the way it had before, but there was a long way to go to learn how to live from this new place. All sense of need or lack was gone and everything not only appeared to be perfect as it was, radiating with love and life, but that also pervaded me and made it so that any personal problems appeared to have vanished.

Of course, Eckhart Tolle knew nothing of this because he personally hadn’t done anything, although it took a while for that to sink in. It was the awakeness (the One life) that was speaking through him that somehow woke me up. He is such a clear, clear channel. I owe him an infinite debt just for being so clear, and for being there at the right time for me. It felt so incredibly grateful to Eckhart but even at the same time I could see that it wasn’t him. It is the awakeness that I owe (call it God if you will, the Self with a capital S, or Life with a capital L). The awakeness that took him, took me also.

It has been over five years since this happened and it has not faded or wavered at all. All that changes is how much of a commotion the “me” is making at any given time, which may or may not be obscuring the perfect unity underneath. The underlying foundation never wavers at all, but steadies whatever is happening in my personal life. And when I give it the space, it lives life through me, as me.

Portals into Presence

May 14th, 2008 by Pete

There are various portals that you can use to enter the Now. One portal is to become aware of the energy field of your body as you sit there. To feel that you are actually alive in your hands and your arms and your legs, throughout your body. There is an aliveness that most people cannot feel because they are only in their heads, thinking. All their attention is absorbed by thinking and they are not present where they are. So you can use this portal, the aliveness of your inner body.

You can use sense perceptions…watch nature — trees or animals or your dog. Just be alert as you watch a dog, playing, resting; play with a dog … you can learn being present from an animal. Your dog can teach you to be present because the dog is ready to enjoy, celebrate life any moment … the Now. The dog is in the Now so it can teach you or remind you. When you become burdened with problems, look at your dog and see how the dog is always ready to celebrate life.

Another opening is to ask yourself whether you are friendly with the present moment or whether you are making the present moment into an obstacle or enemy. If you are against it or want to run away from it, you create stress, you create anxiety, you create past guilt or resentment … all these things that people carry around, they are in the past, and then you have the burden of the future which you can’t control, so to come to the present moment is actually a transformation of consciousness. That’s why The Power of Now has had such an impact because it has told people that they didn’t realize they could be present and they could simplify and deepen their lives tremendously and make it more joyful.

Awakened Doing

May 8th, 2008 by Pete

The new earth arises as more and more people discover that their main purpose is to bring the light of consciousness into this world and so use whatever they do as a vehicle for consciousness. Here are three ways of practicing “awakened doing.”

Knowing that what is cannot be undone — because it already is — you say yes to what is or accept what isn’t. Then, you do what you have to do, whatever the situation requires.

Stay alert, stay present — present with your whole Being, with every cell of your body. As you do so, you are bringing a light into the darkness. This is the flame of your consciousness.

Abide in this state of acceptance for longer and longer periods each day. In this state, you create no more negativity, no more suffering, no more unhappiness. You then live in a state of nonresistance, a state of grace and lightness, free of struggle. When your doing arises from this state, your Being is a gift to the world.

Eckhart the Antichrist?

May 8th, 2008 by Pete

Oprah Winfrey’s ten-session Webcast series with Eckhart Tolle, discussing his book, A New Earth has now concluded with most viewers hailing it as a stimulating and enriching exchange in many ways. Due to the vast number of people Oprah can reach, (over two million watched these live events) there were all kinds of people drawn into an experience they may never have opened to. This is cool . . . but it was bound to ruffle some feathers.

The first thing I noticed was a lot of fundamental leaning Christians having problems with Eckhart’s teaching, or perhaps it was with coming to grips with their own shallow grasp of what Yeshua (Jesus) really taught. Many people in the forum are expressing problems with guilt or with their fellow Christians chastising them for accusing this gentle teacher of being “satanic” or the “antichrist” WOW, but it does not surprise me. It would be laughable if it were not such a sad reflection on the unconsciousness of these ‘religious’ critics.

Satanic? An English friend tells the humorous story about giving his sister a copy of The Power of Now

On a more sombre note, this fundamentalist claims on YouTube that Oprah was host to Antichrist

In case you’re wondering, the Antichrist is considered by believers to be the prodigious tyrant of the last days, the arch-enemy of Christ. It was a notion that combined Persian dualism with Judeo-Christian apocalypse. Antichrist first appeared in Revelation as the pseudo-messiah ‘who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped…. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given to him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.’ In the Middle Ages, however, he was portrayed not only as a world tyrant but also as an airborne beast with a huge head, flaming eyes, ass’s ears, and iron teeth.

If this hasn’t put you off the Oprah / Eckhart Webcasts for good, we now have the complete series of ten available on DVD disks … or disk, for a nominal price of $2 a disk. Wih over 15 hours of teaching and entertaining inspiration, these sessions reveal again the liberating truth of Who we really are.

Recognizing Yourself in Another

April 24th, 2008 by Pete

Only when you find the formless dimension in yourself can there be true love in any relationship. The Presence that you are, the timeless I Am, recognizes itself in another, and the other feels loved, that is to say, recognized.

To love is to recognize yourself in another. The other’s “otherness” then stands revealed as an illusion pertaining to the purely human realm, the realm of form. The longing for love that is in everyone is the longing to be recognized, not on the level of form, but on the level of Being.

If you honor only the human dimension of the other but neglect Being, the other will sense that the relationship is unfulfilled, that something absolutely vital is missing, and there will be a buildup of pain in the other and sometimes unconscious resentment toward you. “Why don’t you recognize me?” This is what the pain or resentment seems to be saying.

When another recognizes you, that recognition draws the dimension of Being more fully into this world through both of you. That is the love that redeems the world….

It has been said “God is love” but that is not absolutely correct. God is the One Life in and beyond the countless forms of life. Love implies duality: lover and beloved, subject and object. So love is the recognition of oneness in the world of duality. This is the birth of God into the world of form. Love makes the world less worldly, less dense, more transparent to the divine dimension, the light of consciousness itself.

About Oprah’s Live Webcast With Eckhart

March 5th, 2008 by Pete

Last Tuesday morning’s webcast (Perth time) was one of the largest single online events in the history of the Internet. More than 500,000 simultaneously logged on to watch Oprah Winfrey and Eckhart Tolle live, resulting in 242 Gbps of information moving through the Internet.

Unfortunately, most experienced delays in viewing the webcast. As one friend reported: “Things started pretty well - downloading was running at about 770 kbits/sec - video quality great. So I sat back to watch and enjoy. Eckhart was really great — and it was fantastic seeing him live, rather than a recoding of ‘live’. Slowly, however, the bandwidth started dropping, and the video quality ‘ran aground’ from time to time. Then it really ran aground, and then the tide went out !!!”

Oprah’s IT people said: “We deeply regret that so many did not have an optimal viewing experience. Interactive Internet broadcasting to a mass audience is still an emerging medium, and we’re proud to have been pioneers in pushing the industry forward. We are trying to identify the specific causes for the problems experienced and will work diligently to rectify them.

The good news is that the first session of the Oprah-Eckhart webinar is now available in its entirety on Oprah.com for viewing or for downloading as a podcast.

The next Webcast, featuring Chapter 2 of A New Earth is
scheduled for Tuesday, March 11th at 11.00am (Perth time). For full information, go to our Oprah-Eckhart Page.

Guardians of Being

February 25th, 2008 by Pete

Right now, part of the dog’s divine purpose is to assist humans. That’s why they have chosen to be with humans. They have been with humans for thousands of years and now there is a link between dogs and humans, much closer than it has ever been. A dog can keep you in touch with Being — the innermost core, beyond mind. You can look into the eyes of the dog and see that innermost core.

Something that’s very important for many people is they realize, consciously or unconsciously, that their dog is not judging them. For some people, it’s the only relationship that they have where there’s no fear and where they realize they are being accepted and not judged. For many people it’s the only relationship they have with another being.

That’s a pity, because really they should have deep relationships with humans also, but that’s difficult because every human being has a mind and every human being judges and so people become afraid, they withdraw, they put up barriers. I believe that dogs are keeping millions of
people sane who would otherwise become deeply neurotic in our alienated world.

There are teachings that say every being is a spark of the divine or God. You can see it sometimes more clearly [in dogs] than in a human being because the human being has the veil of mind, negative emotions, and ego, and plays a role. I believe that dogs fill a vital function in the collective consciousness of humanity. I would call them “the Guardians of Being.”

They show us what we have lost and, once we realize that, they can help us in our shift into a deeper state of consciousness. Of course, we don’t want to be confined to only deep relationships with dogs, but they can teach us how to relate deeply to another being and then we can learn to relate deeply to humans also. That has to be the next step.
