Years ago, I discovered a new way to look at the world — a new way to think, a new position from which I could view the universe — and that position let me see beauty and wonders that were not apparent to the old way, to the old position, to the Old Think.

Well now, this new way to think, this way to view the world seems wonderful and marvelous to me. At the time it happened I was absolutely certain it was virgin and pristine and that it never before had been seen by anyone. I’ve since learned that this experience is awaiting everyone and will for each come as it did with me, with the absolute conviction that it’s unique and new ….

God is light. Light is a beautiful synonym for what God is. You may have heard of Lucifer — Lucifer, the devil … the word Lucifer means the bearer of light, the one who carries light. And, according to the Bible myth, that Lucifer was thrown out of heaven, damned to an eternal darkness.

Lucifer is the idea that we are the ‘bearers’ of light. Lucifer is the idea that we are the ‘custodians’ of this awareness right here, right now. Never was there a bearer of life, never a bearer of light.

We are life, we are light and we let go the Lucifer, the deceitful nature of us that would say, “This is my life to do with as I please; this is my destiny to live as I choose.” We let all that foolishness go — just to be light, to be life that is the Godhead shining.

Q) What you say about Being aware of where you are and of what you are feeling, sounds like Mindful Meditation; why do you not call it this?

A) Because I do not meditate and I do not want to encourage people to become regimented, sitting for a few hours a day meditating only to be unconscious the rest of the day. Instead of practicing Mindful Meditation, why can you not simply be mindful, and leave out the meditation? Otherwise it becomes about the meditation and not about the mindfulness, which is why you asked the question.

It doesnt really matter what you do, as long as you are conscious while you do it. That is, assuming you are trying to be more conscious.

Q) Enlightenment, as I understand it, seems to conflict with my religious up-bringing. Does that mean I can’t be Enlightened?

A) No. Enlightenment in itself is purely Self-Realization. If this is indeed in conflict with your religion, then there is something wrong. It is possible some of the stories and insights from Enlightened people may seem to contradict some of the Religious ideas, with their traditions
handed down through Millennia, but whether we look at Christianity with the sayings Be still and know that I am God, and I and my Father are One, or Buddhism which is actually based around the teachings of an Enlightened person, or even much of the Baghavad Gita (as I recall); all refer to realising of the truth within one’s self.

Religion comes from the Latin word, ligare, meaning to bind back. To me that means to reconnect with our Source.

It is often the traditions which seem contradictory, not the original teaching. So you should have no trouble practicing being aware when you continue to learn about your religion. As you do so, you are likely to see truths in it you never saw before, while seeing where some of the truths end and the traditions begin.

Anyone interested in spirituality or religion will recognize that light, as an illuminating and life-giving energy, has been a much-used metaphor for the divine since time immemorial. Pure light has thus been equated with the light of truth, the light of God, the light of Consciousness, the light of Buddha, the Christ-light or the cosmic light, depending upon where one was born and what one was taught.

Nearly all cultures, peoples, and religious groups through the ages have talked about the phenomenon of light in the context of the spiritual or mystical experience. Spiritually inclined individuals have spoken of being called to the light, of being filled with light, of being guided by the light, and of dissolving in an ocean of light etc. Those who claim to have seen visions of holy beings typically report that they were surrounded by a radiant luminescence.

After Prince Siddhartha Gautama realized his Buddhahood, he taught that all beings are imbued with a spark of inner divine light. In describing the original Buddha-nature, Buddhists use such phrases as innate luminosity, primordial radiance, the unobscured clear natural mind, and the clear light of reality.

The enlightenment I speak of is not simply a realization, not simply the discovery of one’s true nature. This is just the beginning — the point of entry into an inner revolution. Realization does not guarantee this revolution, it simply makes it possible.

What is this revolution? To begin with, revolution is not static; it is alive, ongoing. Realization of the ultimate reality is a fact. Revolution is the continuous ongoing birth of intelligence. This intelligence restructures your entire being. This intelligence cuts the mind free of itself, of its old structures which are rooted become free of the old structures of human consciousness, then one is still in a prison, the prison of humanity’s consciousness.

This revolution is the awakening of an intelligence which alone has the ability to uproot all of the old structures of one’s consciousness. Unless these structures are uprooted, there will be no creative thought or action or response. Unless there is an inner revolution, nothing new and fresh can flower. Only the old will flower in the absence of this revolution. But our potential lies beyond the known, beyond the structures of the past, beyond anything that humanity has established.

One must be willing to stand alone — in the unknown, with no reference to authority or the past or any of one’s conditioning. One must stand where no one has stood before in complete nakedness, innocence, and humility.

To realize that we are one with the Creator, as Beethoven did, is a wonderful and awe-inspiring experience. Very few human beings ever come into that realization and that is why there are so few great composers or creative geniuses in any line of human endeavor. I always
contemplate all this before commencing to compose.

This is the first step. When I feel the urge I begin by appealing directly to my Maker and I first ask Him the three most important questions pertaining to our life here in this world — whence, wherefore, whither? I immediately feel vibrations that thrill my whole being. These are the spirit
illuminating the soul-power within, and in this exalted state, I see clearly what is obscure in my ordinary moods; then I feel capable of drawing inspiration from above, as Beethoven did.

Above all, I realize at such moments the tremendous significance of Jesus’ supreme revelation, “I and my Father are One”. Those vibrations assume the forms of distinct mental images, after I have formulated my desire and resolve in regard to what I want — namely, to be inspired so that I can compose something that will uplift and benefit humanity — something of permanent value.

Straight away the ideas flow in upon me, directly from God, and not only do I see distinct themes in my mind’s eye, but they are clothed in the right forms, harmonies and orchestration. Measure by measure, the finished product is revealed to me when I am in those rare, inspired moods, as they were to Tartini when he composed his greatest work — the Devil’s Trill Sonata.

I have to be in a semi-trance condition to get such results — a condition when the conscious mind is in temporary abeyance and the subconscious is in control, for it is through the subconscious mind, which is a part of Omnipotence, that the inspiration comes. I have to be
careful, however, not to lose consciousness, otherwise, the ideas fade away.
