Satsang Schedule
SATSANG
Satsang (saht-sahng) is a traditional word that simply means 'association with truth', or, the gathering together for guidance and mutual support of those who are seeking SAT (i.e. Truth - Ultimate Being - God). If awakening maybe sometime in the future is no longer an option for you, then you are ready for satsang.
Pete and Pearl Sumner warmly invite you to attend satsang at Gurukula in Fremantle, Western Australia. Anyone 16 years-of-age and over may join us, but it is preferable that you have a strong desire to understand and experience the liberating truth of non-dual spiritual enlightenment.
If you haven't attended before, or if you're a regular attender and would like to bring a friend, a courtesy call (9336-4737) to let us know you are coming would be appreciated.
A donation of $5.00 per person to cover overheads and help with our work is appreciated, but all are welcome.
Satsang is an opportunity to enjoy fellowship, sharing and to raise relevant questions that attenders may have about the truth of who or what they are. Sometimes, a videoed talk or satsang by a spiritual teacher such as Adyashanti may be shown. At the end of satsang, light refreshments are served.
Where?
The satsang group meets at Gurukula, the home of Pete and Pearl Sumner, in Daly Street, South Fremantle. Phone 61-8-9336-4737. Fremantle is the Port city of Perth, the capitol city of Western Australia. Here's a map of our locality. If you're planning a visit from the country, interstate or overseas, you might like to see some accommodation options. When?
Presently, the satsang group meets regularly on the second and fourth Friday evenings of the month from 7.30pm to about 9.30pm. First time attenders are encouraged to arrive early.
"Clear seeing is the solvent of attachment, of grasping and confusion. Truly clear seeing -- not just with your mind -- it starts with your mind, but
your body sees too -- your whole being is a sensing instrument and it is wise."
Satsang is conducted so that the awakening process can be continued and so that spiritual enlightenment can go deeper within the fellowship as a whole as well as within each of its members. At satsang , attenders can learn from the heart rather than the head how to embody and experience the teaching in all aspects of everyday life.
Although we are deeply grateful to many teachers, past and present, the Great Teacher we attend to in satsang is the ineffable and holy One that is the truth of our Being. Finally we discover that the inquirer, the teacher and the teaching are not separate but the one happening.
At Gurukula transmission and support comes from the whole fellowship or community of those who are experiencing the teaching in varying degrees of wakefulness.
You could say that ours is, or aims to be, a fellowship of those who have awakened to, or, are in the process of awakening to, their essential true nature as consciousness and recognize that essence in all others, all life-forms. They live in the surrendered state and so feel their oneness with the whole and the Source. They embody the awakened consciousness that is changing all aspects of life on our planet.
A native of Northern California, Adyashanti is a teacher of growing recognition and popularity in the United States. He teaches extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area, offering weekly satsangs, frequent intensives, and silent retreats.
Details of these events can be found at Adyashanti's Web site. Adyashanti has a penetrating way of engaging in dialogue with people, in which layers of false understanding drop away in the radiance of awareness, leaving the freshness and clarity of the living moment. We are looking forward to welcoming Adyashanti to Australia in October, 2007.
Adyashanti's writings are featured in Peter's Pearls and his DVDs are shown in our satsang gatherings.
We can supply: What Adyashanti Says About Satsang
You wouldn't come to Satsang if you didn't have brief moments of something shining through the personal reference point. There's no way you'd end up somewhere like this even if somebody dragged you along and you think it's a big mistake. Life is highly intelligent -- it wasn't your friend's decision to bring you to Satsang, Life moved through your friend, Life decided to bring you here and it's no mistake. You may never come back, but that's not a mistake either.
Nobody would ever be at Satsang if something hadn't shone through their personal reference point -- some precious moment, some beauty, some love, something amazing, something mysterious that you must know more about -- a glimmer of something that's bigger than the personal reference point of 'me' and my little concerns. Actually, this Consciousness or Presence is constantly breaking through -- we just cover it up so quickly.
Pete Sumner's dialogue with Adya in Satsang Your Participation in Satsang
Satsang is inquiry into the truth of our Being. In satsang, be willing to ask the most important questions -- the true questions, the questions that could actually change your life -- the questions that could lead you to deeper and deeper depths of awakening and liberation.
Accordingly, you are urged to inquire in a way that is not simply conceptual, but rather in a way that takes you deeper and deeper into the intuitive understanding of the heart and the Still Silence or Spaciousness which is the truth of your Being.
Satsang is a dynamic environment where we encourage those who come to question courageously, to not hold back, to not hide, to take risks and to be willing to inquire very honestly and very sincerely.
You are encouraged to step past old boundaries and go beyond your fears and hesitations and doubts. In this way, we can explore together the new awareness that is so evidently arising in our midst.

We keep running back to this personal reference point only because we identify with it and think it's who we are. But when we finally look and see that the personal reference point isn't who we really are, our reference point becomes Consciousness, which means it isn't a point at all. (A point is only a thing, it's finite -- what we are is infinite, vast, spaceous awareness that is capacity for all things).
